Newly signed 20 year old Jr B veteran Steve Allan came in and formed a new line with Robbie Thomson and Tom Collins. The line picked up 10 points in the game. Allan had 2 goals/1 assist, Thomson had 2 goals/1 assist and Collins picked up 4 assists. The Tikis used a four-goal second period to ease to a 7-3 decision over the Rangers in Rideau-St. Lawrence Junior B Hockey League action at the Memorial Centre on Wednesday night. The Tikis have all but mathematically locked up third place in the five-team Rideau Division. The Rangers trail the Gananoque Islanders for the fourth and final playoff spot by eight points with just seven games left. "We came out and played a pretty solid second period," agreed Tikis head coach Adam Folco. "They got a goal on us and we came back with one of our own and we played pretty solid from there on in." At the midway mark of the second period, the Tikis held only a 2-1 advantage. The Rangers were in the game. "It was five minutes in the second period. From the 11- minute mark to the six-minute mark, we gave up 10 shots in four minutes," said Rangers head coach Kevin Harrison. At 10:26, Brockville newcomer Steve Allan knocked in the rebound of a shot from the slot. Thirty-two seconds later, the Rangers made a giveaway in their own zone. Alex Campbell, who played 2 years in Winchester and signed as a free agent a couple weeks ago, ended up knocking a rebound past South Grenville goalie Scott Cannon. At 12:31, Rangers' Travis Leeson threw a shot at Tikis goaltender Ryan Bishop and it bounced off his stick and into the net. The Tikis responded quickly again with Rob Thompson scoring off another miscue in the Rangers' zone. That made it 5-2 for the Tikis and signalled the end for Cannon in favour of Mike Lalande. "It didn't seem like they played really desperate and we had a really good effort from our so-called third and fourth lines. They put a lot of pressure on them," said Folco. Five minutes later, the Rangers weren't able to get the puck out of their own zone. James Hurley found Thompson in front of the South Grenville net and he made a short shot for his second goal of the night and a 6-2 Brockville lead. The Rangers weren't getting the opportunities late in the second period to take shots. The offence just wasn't happening. At the 8:50 mark of the third period, Allan scored his second goal of the game with Thompson causing havoc in front of Lalande. Rangers' Tony Hiratsuka scored the final goal of the night when the Tikis were sloppy in their own zone. "We did a lot of good things tonight. Regardless of what team you're playing, you're going to be effective," said Folco. "Obviously, against a tougher team, you're going to have to play a little better but we have the right idea." Doug Utting and Robert Rice had the earlier Brockville goals. Tom Collins picked up four assists for the Tikis. Brockville outshot South Grenville 40-26. Jason Brown had the first goal for South Grenville. The Tikis return to action on Sunday, travelling to Gan to play the Islanders at 7:30 p.m.
